Well Apple have launched yet another thinner, lighter, faster version of the iPad 2. Is there anyone else who feels slightly cheated by the constant subtle improvement of Apple’s range of products? A fellow colleague of mine received a shiny new iPad for Christmas and very happy she was too but within 3 months the product is obsolete... well when I say obsolete in ‘fashionistas’ eyes yes obsolete. What Apple have been very clever in doing is creating a successful fashion driven brand with a green/ environmental vibe, so you don’t feel guilty about buying a new one every year (or less)..clever. Not so clever for the environment, what’s wrong with creating a timeless piece of design and updating and renewing that. Sending back to apple to update hard drive, processor, applications, etc.
Apple seem to be very good at creating products that don’t quite hit the mark the first time meaning they need to develop a solution 3 months later to solve this. Why not design a product which has some longevity to it a product that truly lasts and develops with popular culture, this for me would be a lot more impressive and sustainable than following trends.
But maybe it’s not Apple, maybe they are just filling the huge appetite that the general populous has for thinner, lighter, faster.. Maybe it’s us that need to make the change, Apple have just plugged into our primeval desire to exude success over our neighbour.
